Mary Ann Seyfarth

John and Mary Ann Seyfarth
Mary Ann had some inspiring things to say.... Mary Ann with her son, John.  He is also a wonderful teacher!

Betty Ann Garlak introduced Mary Ann with the following speech:

Mary Ann Seyfarth has taught in RO for 30 and 1/2 years. She is currently at Starr teaching 4th grade. Previously, she has taught at Emerson, Whittier and Addams. Mary Ann is very professional in her role as teacher. She has given her best and expects that from her students. From staff meetings, district committees, and daily lessons, she has always strived to help her students. Her voice and presence are listened to and respected. She is a leader among our staff. She willingly shares ideas and suggestions and has been a union elementary director.

Mary Ann is clever and creative. She enjoys playing the piano by ear, and is especially interested in ragtime. She has a signed piece of music by U.B. Blake. She also plays the banjo and dulcimer. Mary Ann also likes to knit, she has a huge dollhouse, and collects egg cups. Also, she is an avid reader. Mary Ann has a reputation for quality and high standards. And that is evident in her family as well. Both of her children, son John and daughter Carolyn, have gone into teaching. Her son placed second in the state for Kiwanis Young Man of the Year, and was also a featured teacher in the Detroit News. Her daughter has presented at the National Math Conference. Mary Ann is an excellent role model!

Besides her family, Mary Ann has another passion. And that is England. She reads British mysteries and travels there often. This past spring her granddaughter Olivia traveled with her. Mary Ann loves British plays. She can often be found in line at Leister Square to purchase discount tickets to a p1ay.  There is a rumor that sometimes during a long staff meeting, she passes the time listing the names of Shakespeare plays. I think her ticket is purchased and her bags are packed for her summer trip to England. But, this time she has no deadline for returning!

Mary Ann, we wish you good health and happiness in retirement. Royal Oak Schools and the children are better off for having you as part of our teaching staff.  CONGRATULATIONS!!
