SUPPORT THE BOND PROPOSAL
On
March 26, our Representative Assembly passed a resolution in support
of the June 10th Bond Proposal. Here is the resolution which I
read to the School Board at their April 24th meeting.
Whereas the
Royal Oak School District’s June
1h,
002
Bond
Proposal
would build four new elementary
schools and renovate and
upgrade all other schools; and,
Whereas such building and renovation will result in
a safer, healthier, and more
educationally viable learning community; and,
Whereas it is the common
mission for all
teachers to advocate for improved learning environments for their students; then
Therefore
be it resolved that the Royal Oak Education Association shall support the
Bond Proposal; and,
Be it further
resolved that the ROEA
shall lend its resources in
an active effort to pass the Bond
Proposal.
The
campaign to rebuild and renovate our schools is being lead by members
of ROCSPE - Royal Oak Citizens Supporting Public Education. ROCSPE is
made up of parents and other community members (including many
District employees) and has a long history of supporting our schools.
It is now our turn to support the efforts of ROCSPE. We have an
opportunity to improve the learning environment of our students. This
means a higher quality of instruction. As their teachers and
advocates, our students deserve no less from us.
Let
us make common cause with ROCSPE. Please send a membership
contribution and volunteer to play an active role in the Bond
campaign. Together, we can renew our long standing commitment to
public education.

ROEA SCHOLARSHIP
I am pleased to announce that we now have a ROEA
scholarship which is exclusively for our members' children or other
relatives. At the same time that we have created a new opportunity for
students, the ROEA continues to make an annual contribution of $1,000
to Dondero and Kimball for scholarships at each high school. The
action of your Executive Board members in creating the new scholarship
while maintaining the Dondero and Kimball scholarships loudly
proclaims their commitment to continuing education.
The inaugural contribution for the scholarship fund
was made in memory of three individuals. They are Kit Lopata,
sister of Nancy Dreyer; Mariann Flynn, mother-in-law of Linda Flynn;
and Matthew Droz, son of Alan and Marilyn Droz. We are honored
to preserve their memories in the education of others.
