The Treasurer shall maintain a roll of the members. The Treasurer shall keep accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements, and shall provide a written report to each meeting of the ROEA-RA and Executive Board.
Further, the Treasurer shall prepare an annual financial statement for publication to members.
The Treasurer's records shall be audited annually.
The Treasurer shall be an alternate delegate to the Region 7 Council.
Directors
1. There shall be one (1) Director from Senior High, one (1) from Middle School and one (1) from Elementary to be elected by their respective groups.

Other Responsibilities of Officers - The Executive Board shall be responsible for the management of the Association, approve all expenditures, carry out policies established by the ROEA-RA, report its transactions and those of the ROEA-RA to the members, and suggest policies for consideration by the ROEA-RA.
The Executive Board shall represent the Association in negotiating with the employers, and may make decisions binding the Association in these matters.
Under policies adopted by the ROEA-RA and within the annual budget, the Executive Board shall have the power to employ a staff and maintain an office for the efficient management of the Association.
Here is additional information about some of the positions.
President The president gets release time, a small stipend, and an expense account in order to effectively represent the Association.
Treasurer The treasurer does not have to keep ongoing records of receipts and disbursements. Our office staff does that for us.
Directors Our directors represent us at monthly curriculum subcommittee meetings with administration.
MEA Delegates Our delegates represent the ROEA at the twice yearly MEA Representative Assembly in Lansing. Expenses are covered.
NEA Delegates Our delegates represent the ROEA at the annual NEA Representative Assembly. The RA meets during the first week in July in different cities. (The RA is in Washington D.C. this year.) Expenses are covered.
Please consider serving your fellow teachers. Being a member of the Executive Board requires time and work, but the rewards are great. As a result of my service on the Executive Board, I have a much better appreciation of professionalism and how a
teacher's professionalism is enhanced and protected by our union. I also better appreciate and understand the interplay of politics and our jobs. As public school teachers, our jobs are wholly regulated by politics. As NCLB looms before us, as the United States Secretary of Education calls teachers
"terrorists", and as people with inordinate wealth attempt to undermine public education with vouchers and tuition tax credits, we need teachers who are willing to fight for our professional dignity, job security, wages, and the needs of our students.
Thank you for considering an Executive Board position.

ROEA Supports Student Achievement and Reading Month
by Valerie Grimes
March is Reading Month. The National Education Association developed the initiative, Read Across America, to support schools in their efforts. The ROEA, in conjunction with the Royal Oak Schools, is also supporting Reading in the Royal Oak Schools by supporting elementary buildings with the NEA support materials as well as a donation to be used at the
building's discretion for materials to support their Reading Month activities. Some buildings have used the money to purchase books and incentives for students. Others have purchased videos and materials to support this program. |
Each school has taken Reading Month and made it their own. At Whittier, students are following the theme
"Hats Off to Reading!" They started the month with a used book sale. Oak Ridge has changed its name to
"Seuss Ridge." They have various activities, including Oak Ridge
"Unplugged" where students exchange a week of television for a week of reading. Other buildings are using the
NEA's "Read Across America" theme. At Northwood students are reading and keeping track of their minutes. For each minute, they move a car one mile across America. Some classrooms are trying to visit every state. Upton is catching students reading, by having teachers call students at home to see if
they're reading at certain times.
For the media centers of Addams, Keller, Dondero and Kimball the ROEA has donated $181 to purchase eleven books on a variety of topics ranging from "Detroit Red Wings" to "Odd Girl Out: The Hidden Culture of
Aggression in Girls."
With professional materials given to our dedicated members, Reading Month is a time to help students increase their enthusiasm for books and their literacy skills.
