Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting

November 28, 2006

I.      Call to order 5:45 p.m.

II.     Reports

A.     Treasurer- Nicole Murawski

1.      Same as AR Report

2.      Discussed our Credit Report/ Bank CD

B.     President- Sid Kardon

1.      Discussed Class Size Relief issues

C.     –Program VP-Chris Baer

1.      Same as AR Report

2.      Thanked members who spoke at the New Teacher Orientation Dinner

3.      The Retirement Dinner is scheduled to occur at Big Fish

D.     –Curriculum Subcommittee-Barbara Pollis

1.      Discussed the text book proposal for the middle school

2.      Discussed concerns with the number of ongoing committees

3.      Discussed 10 versus 6 week marking periods

a)      Would like a decision made this year

E.      PAC- Betty Ann Garlak

1.      Same as AR Report

2.      Announced that there will be a drawing at the Mid-Year Party

F.      President- Sid Kardon

1.      Discussed bargaining issues in greater detail

2.      Restated the importance of members being present at the Board meeting

3.      Discussed issues with high school scheduling

a)      Will be brought up at the next Joint Committee Meeting

G.     New Business

1.      Betty Ann Garlak motioned that we pay the retirees enrollment fee to SOMEA ($5 each) for the first year.  The total would be around $60.

a)      Tracey Crawley seconded the motion

b)      Discussion followed

c)      The motion was passed anonymously

2.      Tracey Crawley motioned for the ROEA to donate $250 to The H.S. Girls’ Forestry Club with the money going to buy Meijer gift cards for three needy families the club has ‘adopted’ during the holidays.

a)      Todd Noonan seconded the motion

b)      Discussion followed about possible publicity for the ROEA donation

(1)   Tracey explained that the Herald will be writing about the Forestry Club’s efforts and that she was planning on calling the Tribune

c)      The motion passed anonymously

3.      Concerns with H.S. course selection in relation to seniority was addressed and discussed

4.      Concerns with the fact that the H.S. In-House Suspension Room is still run by hall monitors and not a teacher was brought up and discussed again

a)      The time students spend in the room can not be counted as instructional time since a teacher is not in charge

5.      Questions about consolidation were raised and discussed

6.      There was an explanation of the ROEA agenda for the December 7th Board Meeting

a)      The plan is to meet at the Board Office at 6:30 p.m. in our red shirts and walk into the building at 6:45 p.m.

b)      The Mirror and Tribune will be contacted

7.      Bargaining Conference

a)      The ROEA will be asking the Coordinating Counsel for money to help cover the cost of the Conference

b)      Chris Baer motioned to send up to eight ROEA representatives to the MEA Bargaining, Political Action and PR Conference February first through third at a cost of approximately $2,080.

(1)   Todd Noonan seconded the motion
(2)   Discussion followed
(3)   The motion passed anonymously
(4)   Sid Kardon, Nicole Murawski, Vince Caruso, Todd Noonan, Karen Christian and Tracey Crawley are interested in attending the conference
(5)   Those interested should call Sid so that they can get their registrations in early

8.      Possible dates for the Executive Board’s December Holiday Party were discussed

a)         These dates include Tuesday, Dec. 19th and Thursday December 21st

9.      Bruce Anderson spoke about the Board’s Budget and his thoughts

III.   Adjournment

A.     Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. after a motion passed
