Bill McDonald

Bertha Arribas, Sid Kardon and Sue Schellig congratulate Bill (third from left) on his retirement.

Sue Schellig introduced Bill McDonald with the following speech:

William Row McDonald BS, MS, Ph.D.
aka Dr. Bill

Bill McDonald moved to Michigan from great Bend, Kansas. Which explains why he always roots for the Kansas University Jay Hawks.

Dr. Bill attended Washburn University for his undergrad degree. His dad was director of Financial Aid at the university. Bill’s mom and dad were friends of Harold Sponberg who became President of Eastern Michigan University. Dr. Sponberg bought Bill on as “Dean of Golf’(assistant coach of golf team and instructor)at E.M.U. He earned his Ph.D. at Wayne State University. So, Bill, why are you still cheering for the K.U. Jay Hawks?

Bill started his career in the real world of education as a counselor at Pontiac Northern High School, Dondero High School, and Mary Lyons in Royal Oak. He returned to Wayne State University to teach and has spent eighteen years at Upton Elementary teaching fourth, fifth, and sixth grade.

Bill is married to a wonderful woman, Kathy, who teachers Reading Recovery, in Pontiac. Their daughter Keny is working on her graduate degree at Indiana University. Bill continues to root for K. U.

Dr. Bill is the R.O.E.A. representative for Upton School Michigan School Counselors Association. Other organizations Bill is affiliated with are President of the Michigan Publinx Golf Association, Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.

Bill enjoys reading, golf, cooking, golf, bridge, golf, gardening, and golf. Bill will always be remembered at Upton for his love of a hot cup of coffee, always made by someone else. However he often offers to pour. He has been known to play golf in the hallway and most important his personal touch.

Best Wishes from everyone in the Royal Oak Schools.
