IN ATTENDANCE:  S. KARDON, C. LANGE, C. HANSEN. L. FLYNN, S. STANDEL, K. CORNELL, S. GAYNOR

  1. MINUTES FROM 3-20-02:  Approved as corrected.
  1. WHITTIER PLANNING TIME:  Presentation of proposal for planning time.  Discussion.  Referred to ROEA Executive Board for review.  The minutes and hours will be double-checked.
  2. SICK BANK: Approved 4 requests for sick bank for a total of  37.5  days leaving a balance of 225 days in the bank. Postponed one request for hardship pending more information.
  1. PERSONAL BUSINESS DAY:  Approved 2 requests for P.E. Day.
  1. RELIGIOUS LEAVE DAY:  Approved  2 requests for religious leave days.
  1. TEACHER LEADER:  Discussion of the recommendation of the committee to refer the issue back to both negotiating teams.
  1. BUDGET/HEALTH INSURANCE:  Discussion of employee contribution for 2002-03.  The deduction will begin in January which will give the employee an opportunity to use Section 125 “ before tax dollar” savings to cover this expense.  This will also give employees the opportunity to choose from a menu of options for health insurance.  Brief overview of 2002-03 budget.
  1. SENIORITY LISTS FOR THE ASSOCIATION: This is still not available through MicroSage.  We’ll get it to the ROEA as soon as we can get it.  The buildings will be senT the list from 2 years ago for the time being.
  1. PART TIME TO FULL TIME STATUS:  Teachers who want to go from part to full time must send a written request to Personnel.              
  1. EXECUTIVE BOARD REVIEW OF TEACHER EVALUATION COMMITTEE PROGRESS:  The Executive Board discussed the pilot. The ROEA would like to see as large a group as possible participate in this pilot. Also the group should represent teachers in all areas, levels and departments. Information on this should have been given to the staff on 5/7.
  1. MICROSAGE REPORT CARD UPDATE: Kimball has a committee working on the glitches in this system.  Dondero and the middle schools will be brought into this and people will continue to work on the technical parts of this
  1. CLASS SIZE—STUDENT GOVERNMENT CLASSES:  Discussion about size of Dondero Senate. The administration will bring details back to Joint        Committee.
  1. INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY INFORMATION:  Question about Bloomfield expanding the program.
  1. INDIVIDUAL PLANS FOR TALENTED AND GIFTED STUDENTS:  Plan for identified TAG kids to show student interests, talents, accommodations, etc.
  1. JOB SHARING:  Question about how people find out who might like to job share with them.  If people want to job share, they should contact Personnel.
  2. NEW HIRES:  At this point, we’re anticipating about 40 new hires this year.
  1. TEACHING IN MINOR SUBJECT AREA:  Discussion about majors and minors.  This will be discussed further at the June Joint Committee meeting.
  1. VIDEO PROCEDURES:  These apply to videos that teachers use as supplementary material in their classrooms, not to videos that are an identified part of a particular curriculum.  This will be reviewed again in June.
