JOINT COMMITTEE MINUTES
Wednesday, April 28, 2004

  1. Approval of minutes from Joint Committee meeting of March 25, 2004 – One change was made to the minutes.  The minutes should read, “The Highly Qualified requirement will become effective in the fall of 2006.  Certification issues are currently being worked on.” 
  1. Request for Sick Leave Bank Benefits – Approved four requests for Sick Bank withdrawals totaling 85.5 days which required the use of 65.5 days from the 2004-05 Sick Bank.
  1. Request for Personal Business Day – approved.
  1. Salary for Competitive Cheer Coach – A proposal will be presented at the next Joint Committee meeting.
  2. Agenda Items – Items will be submitted 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Beginning next fall the Joint Committee will meet on the first Wednesday of the month.
  1. Update on Change to Discrimination Policy – The Policy Committee continues to work on this.
  1. Part-time Employee Seniority Calculation – Beginning next year seniority will be calculated as days of service using tenths.
  1. Update on Pool Safety Regarding Class Size – The Safety Committee will be approached with regard to this issue.
  1. Technology –
    1. One uncensored computer per building – Report will be made at the next meeting.
    2. ITT COMPUTERS – Notification of staff – Agreements are in the building.
  1. Staff Meeting Schedule for 2004-05 – Meeting schedule will be presented at the next meeting.
  1. High School Consolidation – A link will be placed on website.  Updates will be posted.
  1. Shared Position – A discussion occurred.
  1. Clarification – Probationary Teachers – The professional development requirement for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year nontenured teachers has not changed under the new contract.  Under the new contract there is no fourth year professional development requirement.  The Human Resources Department will continue to send certificate renewal letters to teachers.
  1. Application for Sick Leave Benefits – This item will be placed on the next agenda.
  1. Longfellow Second/Third Grade posting – A tentative resolution was reached.
