JOINT COMMITTEE
INSTRUCTION OFFICE

IN ATTENDANCE:  C. LANGE, S. KARDON, L. FLYNN, S STANDEL, K. CORNELL 

  1. MINUTES:  Minutes from February 14, 2002 were approved as written.
  2. P.E. REQUEST:  Approved 2 requests for P.E. days.  Denied 2 requests.
  3. RELIGIOUS LEAVE:  Denied one request for Religious Leave.
  4. SICK BANK:  Reviewed one previous request for Sick Bank.  There is a balance of 281.5 days in the Sick Bank.
  5. ATTENDANCE AT TUESDAY MEETINGS:  Some teachers are scheduling non-emergency doctors appointments, attorney meetings, etc.  Contractually, teachers are expected to be at Tuesday meetings unless there is an emergency.
  6. ATTENDANCE AT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:  Teachers aren’t required to make up the October Professional Development if they missed due to illness.  However, this information is filed with the State as part of our Personnel Data base.
  7. TUESDAY MEETING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:  A draft of the dates for 2002-03 was distributed for review.  As soon as the dates are reviewed, they will be distributed to the buildings.
  8. PILOT EVALUATION PROGRAM: The proposal was distributed and needs to go back to the ROEA Executive Board for approval.  Then the pilot will begin in May.
  9. INTERNATIONAL TEACHING AND LEARNING CONSORTIUM: For this and other similar conferences, people who attend are typically people who serve in leadership positions and will bring the information back and present in Professional Development Academy etc.
  10. DUAL SPONSORSHIP OF CLUBS:  If two people share a club sponsorship, both may be paid.  The first comes from a Personnel budget and the rest comes from a building budget.  See p. 56 in the contract.
  11. FMLA AND CONTRACT LANGUAGE:  FMLA is a 12-week leave. If teachers want more time, they may take the remainder of the year without pay and return the next year.  If teachers  do not return at the end of 12 weeks, the teacher’s benefits are not paid for the FMLA 12-week period.  The law will be double-checked.
  12. STAFF MEETING FOR APRIL 23, 2002:  This is an ROEA meeting day and the building meetings will be scheduled.
