JOINT COMMITTEE

IN ATTENDANCE:  T. SHORKEY, S. STANDEL, B. EVOE, P. CHAMBERS, S. KARDON, L. FLYNN

  1. MINUTES:  Minutes from September 3, 2003 – Approved as written.

  2. SICK LEAVE:  Approved 2 requests for Sick Bank totaling 44 days.  Leaving a balance of 220 days.

  3. PERSONAL BUSINESS DAYS:  Approved 2 requests for Personal Business Days.
  4. USE OF ASSOCIATION DAYS:  The Association Leave Form is to be completed and turned into the Human Resources Department by 4:00 p.m. of the day prior to the employee’s absence.
  5. CALLING OF ADMINISTRATORS AT HOME:  All employees need to respect other’s personal time.

  6. BFC TRAINING:  Training will be offered to building BFC teams.

  7. ROYAL OAK TEACHER(S) AT INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY:  Royal Oak Schools teacher(s) who teach at the International Academy are considered to be full time employees of Royal Oak Schools with full rights and benefits.

  8. FULL-TIME OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEACHERS:  There is no need for additional teachers at this time.  Change in status letters will be accepted until March 1, 2004.   Letters are to be sent to the Human Resources Department with a copy sent to the ROEA.

  9. CLUB SPONSORSHIP:  Middle school and high school club sponsorship criteria are outlined in the contract.

  10. PILOT EVALUATION PROGRAM:  Teachers will be compensated for non-contractual time meetings at the summer rate.

  11. COMPENSATORY TIME:  Part time teachers who have participated in parent teacher conferences, but are not scheduled to work during compensatory release time, should speak with their building administrators and then send requests for release time to the Human Resources Department.

  12. LUNCH MEETINGS:  Luncheon meetings are voluntary.

  13. LATCHKEY CREDIT:  New employee credit is no longer offered due to budgetary constraints.

  14. MENTOR MAKE-UP SESSION:  Mentors who missed the August meetings may attend the make-up sessions, design an action research project, do a book and/or journal study.  Mentors who wish to not attend the make-up sessions are to submit a proposal for pre-approval before beginning a project.  Pre-approvals are to be submitted to Barbara Evoe.

  15. ELEMENTARY REPORT CARDS:  The issue was resolved prior to this meeting.  We do not anticipate it reoccurring.

  16. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS FOR PART-TIME EMPLOYEES:  State law requires all teachers, full and part time, participate in 5 days of staff development annually.

  17. MEA – IPD NOTIFICATION OF ABSENCES:  On December 5, 2003, 10-12 teachers will attend the MEA’s IPD Conference.
