Present: Chris Baer, Val Grimes, Sarah Olson, Lisa McFee, Vincent Caruso, Barbara Pollis, Steven Chisnell
Chair: C. Baer Recorder: S. Olson
Model Un Proposal: Model Un class for ½ credit from September through April. Would meet once per week for three hours in the evening. Class would not replace club. Club would still function. Would be able to take class for four years. Class would not replace current required coursework. Program could be considered as a pilot. Next step is Joint Committee.
High School Course Proposals: High School Course Proposals were reviewed and will be distributed after they are approved by the board. Some courses only have a name change to better align with Standards and Benchmarks and Highly Qualified Status.
Grade Level Meetings: January
10, 2006, is a Grade Level meeting for elementary and middle school.
This Grade Level meeting will focus on Math and ELA.
Secondary Marking Periods: Established a process for forming a committee that will have the responsibility of reviewing the number of marking periods at the secondary level. Committee made up of ROEA members and administrators will be establish. Looking for a total of 10-12 people from ROEA and administration. ROEA will establish a way to recruit members for interest. Would like to have first meeting in late January 2006.
Fundamental Math Population: Questions
regarding whether students in Fundamental Math classes are getting what they
need to be successful. Committee
recognizes this is an issue, but must follow mandates established by NCLB.
Pinnacle: Some recent progress reports had gaps and blanks. Problems seem to be technical, so these issues need to be referred to the Pinnacle Advisory Committee.
Performing and Visual Arts Department: There is a concern about the lack of leadership positions in these departments. Music has a coordinator, but drama and visual arts do not. Since this may be a personnel issue, we believe it should be sent to Joint Committee.
Next meeting is Thursday, December 15, 2005
